Lessons to Inform IRMA audits
CNV Internationaal and the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) will jointly host a breakfast discussion during Mining Indaba 2026 in Cape Town. The session will bring together stakeholders including industry leaders, union representatives, civil society organisations, and technical experts to explore lessons that can enhance the quality and effectiveness of IRMA audits.
The discussion will address three key thematic areas central to strengthening social and environmental due diligence in mining:
- Customary Governance
- Consent (Free, Prior and Informed Consent – FPIC)
- Land Use and Accountability
These themes are critical for ensuring that mining operations uphold community rights, support meaningful participation, and reinforce transparent and responsible land‑use practices.
