Checklist for companies on trade union freedom and social dialogue

Checklist for companies on trade union freedom and social dialogue

It is a fundamental right of workers and a fundamental human right to organize in a trade union. It enables workers to engage with employers. Unfortunately, in many countries employees encounter all kinds of obstacles when they try to organize themselves. This does not benefit employees, but also employers. Moreover; many employers want to organize this better in their foreign / regional branches.

CNV International has developed a handy checklist with questions that representatives of brands can ask. In this way they can also gain a better understanding of how trade union freedom is practiced in their foreign branches or suppliers.

The questions can be used in random order to management, trade union representatives and employees. Of course, the checklist is not a replacement for an official audit (as is done for membership of multi stakeholder initiatives such as Bonsucro, BSCI, Fair Wear Foundation, ETI, etc).

Make a difference

The more companies are questioned and addressed, the more they will be inclined to open up to independent employee representatives and start a constructive dialogue with employees.

To order hard copy

The questionnaire is also hard copy available on credit card format for use during supplier visits. Send an e-mail to internationaal@cnv.nl and state your name, organization and address and the desired number of copies and the language (English or Dutch) you want to receive.
