"Just look in your office, kitchen and wardrobe. From cashew nuts shelled in Benin to a dress put together in Cambodia or Indonesia. And all those metals, like tin and silver, in your mobile phone, they might have been mined by Peruvian miners.

So you are connected to working people from all over the world who make the stuff we buy. While that international production creates jobs there, the wages are often not enough to make a living. And the conditions are often so incredibly bad, that's just unacceptable.

I respect trade union colleagues worldwide who work for improvement with great commitment and sometimes great personal risk. I am happy to commit to contributing to that."
